Boris Visits Havering & Redbridge

On Saturday Boris joined members of the armed forces and the Mayor of Havering to support the Parcels for the Troops initiative at the busy Roneo Corner Tesco. He got stuck in sorting the items generously donated by local shoppers. A tour of the store got a very positive reception. we went on to visit Romford Market and Hornchurch High Street. The afternoon saw us arrive at Ilford where Boris attracted a crowd worthy of a film star, then on to Barkingside and finally a visit to Wanstead. A gorgeous day heralded the arrival of Spring and people were delighted to meet - and be photographed with - their Mayor.

blimey: bet that was the first time Boris has handled a Tesco carrrier bag ... he came to Finchley last week, you know, and they tried to keep it secret, for fear of unfortunate incidents, but there was still an unfortunate incident concerning a local resident objecting to the mayoral handout wasted on a local scheme: very amusing. Now here is a funny thing: when Boris visits your constituency you, as the GLA member are on hand to show him round. When he came to our neck of the woods our GLA member, Brian Coleman, was nowhere to be seen. Can you explain that?

By the way,I think you should have tucked your shirt back into place. What had you been up to?

Sorry I missed the trip to Finchley - I completed the Dollis Valley Walk a few years ago and I recall it being very lovely. You really are fortunate to live in such a beautiful and well managed borough Mrs A, although at times I fear you need reminding of your good luck...

As for the shirt, these things happen in the excitement of a Boris visit. I didn't see anyone complaining!

I wonder if Mrs A has ever realised how silly her persistent negativity appears, especially since it is directed at someone who can do nothing about the cause of her constant complaints.

oh dear, poor mysterious sjm: do try not to take life so seriously - unless you are a Tory in let's see, possibly Camden or Barnet - in which case, yes things must look a bit grim at the moment ...
I think Roger can probably cope with a bit of teasing, though clearly you cannot.
Which reminds me, Mr Evans, some good news for you on the Political Betting.com website - although, and look away now sjm, not, alas, for Brian here in Broken Barnet ...

No, Mrs A, I'm not a voter in Greater London at all nowadays and live in a constituency where they weigh the Blue vote rather than bother counting it.

And there's nothing mysterious about me, I'm a long-time political mate of Roger's who thinks that there's a point at which 'teasing' tips over into obsessive and unfunny whingeing.

Always good to hear from you sjm! Hope you aren't missing the big City too much.

And if you think Mrs A is guilty of 'obsessive and unfunny whingeing' you should see the unpublished comments from another individual...

oh give over sjm - and yes, I do know who you are now, btw: Roger Evans is a big boy, and if he didn't want to publish the comments, he wouldn't, simple as that. He is a good sport: I'm not sure you are though ...

SJM, a bit of banter on blogs is a good thing. It is a bit of a shame that only Roger and James Cleverly seem to bother writing blogs and keeping us informed. Since James became Conservative Leader, he seems to be taking himself a tad too seriously though, I much preferred his blog when it wasn't purely part of the party machine and had a bit of his personality in it.

Whilst I understand the "corporate brand" style political blogs and websites, I think they end up preaching to the converted. I follow Rogers blog, because it actually gives a bit of interesting insight. Long may that continue.

Oh and one question for Roger. As you moderate comments can you turn verification off. I can't read the writing on them. If you get spammed, just don't publish them

Well you seem to have managed to read the word verification to get the comment where you say you can't read it published ...

Weggis,

Terrible confession, being dyslexic and baffled by it, I got my good lady to enter it.

Oh dear. I have to get my magnifying glass out sometimes too. But I'm not sure Jolly Roger knows how to switch it off.

I've not used my blogger account on here for ages as everytime I do I get bombarded with mail failure emails to the mistyped email address he has in his settings. I was forwarding them to all of his 3 email addresses but he didn't do anything so I gave up.
Let's see what happens with this one.

You can see Jolly Roger in action with the other talented contestants for Havering & Redbridge on the b21 blog.

He did though look very nervous afterwards in the Fairlop Oak, which is known to be a watering hole for certain other commenters here ...

And no B21 does not have word verification switched on and it is not a problem.

Roger Evans said...

OK Weggis and Rog, the problems with verification and email responses should be sorted this time...

Let's hope I don't have to contact Mrs Angry's helpline.

Why did you not tell your blog Fan Club about those hustings?

Roger Evans said...

RR, perhaps I should have publicised the event, but I didn't want to be accused of packing the meeting with supporters - something that I have never done.

Luckily B21 filmed the entire session, and people with a spare 90 minutes can watch it there.
