CONGRATULATIONS

To the new Conservative administration at Hammersmith & Fulham Council, who have managed to deliver a 3% council tax cut, despite a prevailing culture that bills must always go up. A nice contrast with the recent fares increases and, no doubt, the precept increase that Livingstone has planned...

Cllr Harry Phibbs says: Roger, I wondered if you might care to post an item on this on your excellent blog...

My pleasure, sir - and I hope that other councils will be beating a path to your door so they can learn how to save their resident's money.

Many thanks for posting this Roger.
This list of 100 suggested questions for Council officers may offer a few clues.

Also hope other Councils will pass on their tips for efficiency gains to us.
We shouldn't be too proud about copying each other. A lot of what we have achieved has been by copying Wandsworth.

I have published a couple of comments from people suggesting that Redbridge and Havering councils follow the example set by Hammersmith & Fulham.

I do hope the people concerned (listening Andy?) will support the difficult decisions which may be necessary to achieve this....

And you were making it sound so easy!

There is no doubt that setting a Council budget is difficult, but as Andrew Rosindell Member of Parliament for romford said in a recent leaflet, "WE have been hampered in the past by the Residents Association and Labour, now we have a majority we can set our own agenda" or words to that affect.

So, whilst i feel for you Roger, you are on your own this year.

Does that preclude the RA and Labour from effective scrutiny and constructive input?

And why doesn't Cllr Mann allow comments on his blog?
