Boris Visits Rainham

This morning Boris arrived in Rainham to see at first hand how the council is transforming this quiet corner of Havering. Joined by council leader Michael White, he visited Rainham Marshes to see a new walkway leading from the station to this nature reserve which provides a refuge for wild geese, voles and the sociable lapwing. We went on to help children plant bulbs in the gardens of historic Rainham Hall, a National Trust property. Then there was just time to squeeze in a tour of the village and observe the new shop fronts and the Christmas lights all funded by the Mayor's Outer London Fund.

I hope Boris recovers quickly.

ah ... the Mayor's outer London pre election give away fund. Yes. Very timely. Ours has gone to the most affluent high street in the borough, which also happens to be home to the Chipping Barnet Conservative Association offices.

I see you still have regency dandies in Rainham, though Roger - and who was the man standing next to you in the breeches?

The well dressed man is John Clark, a former deputy mayor of Havering. John does guided tours of Rainham Hall for the National Trust and dresses in character - he is a fine example of the Big Society.

John Clark was a former Mayor (not Deputy), and a jolly nice one too!

Quite right, SJM, and it is a tribute to John that you are not the only one to have corrected me!

No offence intended John, or taken, hopefully...
