A Valentine's Tryst at LBC

Tomorrow morning, from 10:00, I'm taking part in the Ken Livingstone show on LBC. We will be reviewing stories from the days papers and discussing the week's events, no doubt including the first Boris Budget, and the wisdom of swearing at Keith Vaz...

But we won't be alone. Our chaperons will be Lib Dem AM, Caroline Pidgeon and Tory Troll blogger, Adam Bienkov, who drops in here to comment now and then.

Clearly a half hour not to be missed...

Hello Roger. I'm just going to be taking part over the phone I'm afraid so I won't get to see you reviewing papers in the flesh. I will be listening closely though.

Roger,

Isn't life strange. I never thought you'd be spending Valentines day with our Ken!!!!

Roger - the Barkingside 21 site is displaying doughnuts this week. I see you go for tarts.

Well spotted, Morris - they are Media Tarts!

Roger

Only just caught up with the broadcast, thought there was some good discussion between you and Ken on the budget - good to see (hear) the process getting a public airing.

Also great to hear so many supportive comments about the Freedom Pass (leaving aside the reserve powers issue) - the extent of the scheme is one of the things London Govt can be proudest of and it's a shame the national scheme is far less generous.

Roger,

A question - When Ken took on the LBC show my two thoughts were

a) Will he be any good because he's not a broadcaster

b) Is it fair that someone who has ambitions to run again as mayor has such a platform

Listening to yesterdays show, I thought that it passd the first test because it was interesting and informative - for instance pensioners were not aware of the changes to the freedom pass. Ken and yourself were also able to discuss GLA matters at a level beyond the usual level. Ken has an unusual style of presenting and he doesn't read endorsments very well, but it was quite compulsive listening.

As to the second part, being a Livingstone supporter, I think it's good for Ken. Is it fair to the Tories?

Any comments?

Rog T, hope you enjoyed the show!

Your first point is largely correct. Ken is a good presenter and I have quite a few Conservative friends who enjoy listening, even if they don't always agree.

As to fairness, well that's life. Boris got plenty of fame from HIGNFY and nobody ever complained. I guess Ken will have to go on holiday some time so LBC will need someone to fill in, and it would be nice if it was a Conservative.

I would be happy to do it, but I guess my high profile colleagues, James Cleverly and Brian Coleman, would be in with a shout...

What changes to the freedom pass he asks suspiciously, knowing that he will applying for one next week?

The principal change is that of being available 24/7 and not just simply after 9.00 am on weekdays (and throughout weekends and bank holidays). No doubt Roger E can enlighten us on any others.

Thank you, Morris.
However, the pass may well be available 24/7, but Public Transport isn't!
