This somewhat shaky picture of Labour's Romford HQ was taken from the top deck of a passing 252 on my return from St George's Hospital (see previous post). Although blurred, the sense of desolation is palpable. It wasn't only their posters that came unstuck over the weekend...

Roger,
Am I right in thinking Lady Thatcher once said that any man over 25 on a bus is a failure?
You are over 25 aren't you :^) ????
Rog T, I'm not sure you are right, that could well be one of those misquotes or incomplete quotes from the Thatcher era, a bit like "get on your bike" or "there is no such thing as society".
I don't feel personally slighted as I was under 25 at the time - how old were you????
I was 12 years old the last time I chatted to Margaret Thatcher. That was when I bumped into her canvassing for the 1974 election. She knew my mother from the Hendon Overseas Friendship association, which she was president of. My mum was the secretary. She recognised me and said "Give your mother my regards".
Mind you, in those days I was famous and everyone recognised me :^)
It was wrongly attributed to Lady Thatcher (can't recall who actually said it), but then hey, she's blamed for everything from the extinction of the dinosaurs onwards, so why not that too.
Today the RMT are proving that not all the dinosaurs are extinct. This species survived the eighties and continues to inflict havoc on the capital.
Daniel Hannan had a blog entry about this not being a genuine Thatcher quote.
